April Update & Upcoming Plans
Posted on 13 Apr '24 filed under New, Update
This month’s update is relatively brief, primarily due to my upcoming vacation, which I am eagerly anticipating two weeks from now. Preparing my two-week itinerary has felt somewhat akin to studying intensively for a final college examination. Although I am looking forward to the trip, I must admit that I am not entirely satisfied with the amount of time I have spent fine-tuning every detail. I will return in the second week of May to resume ongoing projects and updates.
Exvius: Member Check-In
As mentioned in previous updates, members were provided with an extended grace period to review and update their sites listed on Exvius. The following requirements were outlined:
In addition, managing claimed sprites had become increasingly time-consuming, particularly when members frequently changed their choices. To simplify maintenance moving forward, all members are now permitted to select the same sprites. This adjustment will ensure smoother management and reduce the need for manual tracking.
Several new applications have also been processed, while a few were denied due to missing or improperly displayed codes. Please remember that the required code must be visible immediately after submitting an application to ensure approval.
Future Revamp Updates
Over the coming months, Cerine and I plan to implement a series of layout revamps across several sites, including fanlistings. Many of the current designs and code structures have become outdated, and it is time for a complete modernization.
We intend to transition all HTML coding from tables to div-based layouts for a fully tableless design approach. Furthermore, we plan to upgrade from the legacy HTML 4 DOCTYPE to the modern HTML5 declaration (). The older DOCTYPE had been retained primarily to prevent unwanted spacing issues within tables, but this is no longer necessary under current web standards.
It also feels appropriate to retire the long-standing “Save for Web” design convention, which has become obsolete. Embracing contemporary HTML and CSS practices will allow for a cleaner, more efficient, and structurally modern codebase—much like the evolution that PHP has undergone in recent years.
