Cloudplane has officially been updated to Version 3, bringing a major overhaul focused on reliability, accessibility, preservation, and usability. Nearly every part of the directory has been rebuilt or refined, from the submission system and responsive design to the organization of listings and the preservation of collective websites. If this is your first time exploring Cloudplane, you may begin here.

  • Improved layout, navigation, spacing, readability, and accessibility throughout the site.
Directory Improvements

  • Expanded information available for listed collectives.
  • Improved listing layout behavior with dynamic text adjustments to ensure longer collective names and descriptions remain properly displayed without disrupting the directory design.

  • Improved navigation across larger directory sections.
Collective Status System
  • Introduced Online and Archived status tags to indicate whether a collective is currently active or preserved through web archives.
Web Archive Expansion
  • Added more archived collectives preserved through the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, allowing visitors to rediscover historic collective websites.
Documentation Updates
  • Expanded and clarified the Rules, Guidelines, and About sections, including submission standards and the directory's purpose.
Exit Page Redesign
  • Redesigned the exit page and consolidated credits, acknowledgements, references, and external resources.
Behind the Scenes
  • Improved backend reliability, modernized internal systems, and continued cleanup and optimization of the codebase.
  • Implemented JavaScript-based text scaling for select directory fields, allowing longer titles and descriptions to automatically adjust while preserving the overall layout.
Cloudplane v3 is its largest update to date, delivering a faster, more reliable, and easier-to-use directory while continuing its mission of documenting, celebrating, and preserving online collectives for future visitors. Thank you to everyone who continues to visit Cloudplane, submit collectives, share feedback, and help preserve these unique communities on the web.

Development Update

A small update, but something worth noting on. I took a step back to expand Aquarel by adding more cliques to strengthen the site's historical archive. With this update, the clique directory now includes over 300 active cliques dated since Aquarel's debut, making the collection more complete and preserving a larger portion of its history.

In addition to the archive expansion, I completed a responsive redesign of the site. Aquarel is now (and if not, our very first site throughout our entire network) fully compatible across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, providing a more consistent and accessible experience regardless of screen size.

End-of-Year Network Update

As the year draws to a close, it provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved, the lessons gained, and the milestones reached collectively. Throughout the past months, the network has continued to develop and mature, supported by sustained engagement, thoughtful feedback, and ongoing innovation.

Looking toward 2026, our focus will shift toward further expansion within the network; these developments include the introduction of new websites alongside refreshed designs. Additionally, several projects are currently in development behind the scenes. While details remain forthcoming, we also wish to advise that planned network updates and enhancements are scheduled for implementation in due course as these initiatives progress.

Thank you and we wish everyone a belated holiday and a safe new year.
