Posted on 06 Sep '24 filed under Cloudplane, Fanlisting, New, Revamp A new month brings with it the opportunity for a fresh start. While my updates have been somewhat infrequent, it seems they’ve become a rare occurrence—either once a month or not at all. Admittedly, my modus operandi have slowed in recent times, and along the way, I lost some of the joy I once had in the process. Currently, I'm working through a substantial backlog of tasks.
New Fanlisting
A few days ago, I was approved to launch a new fanlisting. To my surprise, it seems that no one has shown interest in this subject in years, so I decided to apply impulsively.
- Japan - Referring back to the previous update on my spring vacation, my last visit to Japan was approximately 12 years ago. Even after all this time, there is still so much to explore and learn about Japan, especially considering how little I knew of Japanese culture at the time of my visit.
Layout Archive
I’ve recently updated our layout archive with all the latest designs. While this section usually goes under the radar, the large number of new layouts released this year prompted me to make sure they were added. Cerine and I want to ensure that no designs go untracked, as we occasionally overlook one or two without a thorough review.
Directory Collective
The directory has also undergone an update, with several collectives being added and outdated ones removed. I have also redesigned and updated the buttons, as the previous ones were outdated and hastily created. The size of the 88x15 buttons has been reduced to 80x15 on the links page. Additionally, the animations for the pixels have been slowed down, making them less intense compared to the previous versions.
Posted on 27 Aug '24 filed under Miscellaneous Over the past few weeks, I’ve been diving into tutorials, primarily focused on HTML5 and learning about Semantic HTML. While these concepts have been around for quite some time, I had previously overlooked them due to a reluctance to change old coding habits. Currently, I’m experimenting with how responsive layouts work, alongside reviewing the source codes of others to study their approaches. My goal is to implement these techniques in the future, specifically for mobile and tablet devices.
We are well aware that nearly 90% of our designs are static (meaning the content and layout do not adjust based on the device being used). Converting everything to a fully responsive format will require significant time and effort, especially considering the number of projects that still demand attention. Unfortunately, there are too many fanlistings and network sites that need updating, and we acknowledge that we should have started fixing our outdated coding practices long ago.
As a result, our current priority is to implement semantic HTML on newer sites that are already coded in DIV (table-less) formats. These are relatively simple to convert, and we aim to integrate them into our workflow before tackling the more complex older designs.
Posted on 15 Aug '24 filed under Fanlisting, Miscellaneous, New As we step into a new month, I am pleased to announce the launch of two new fanlistings now available on Enamour. Among these, I decided to completely rebuild one of the layouts from scratch, as I found no connection to the initial design. I'm happy with this decision, and the final result has met my expectations. Please feel free to join any or all of these fanlistings if you're a fan of them as well.
- Mochi Ice Cream - One of my favorite types of ice cream, featuring a layer of mochi on the outside. Growing up, I often visited one of the best stores that sold ice cream mochi, which was incredibly popular among locals.
- Layouts – As a layout hobbyist and enthusiast, designing and creating my own layouts has always been a fulfilling pastime. I take great pleasure in observing my growth over the years, appreciating the art that can be made digitally.
There are many exciting plans ahead for the network, though the ongoing challenge with layout design has been a significant factor in delaying the completion of some projects. I deeply appreciate everyone who has taken the time to visit the domain. Your feedback is always valued and continues to serve as motivation to keep the site running smoothly. I hope to complete these ongoing projects by the end of 2024.
Posted on 08 Jul '24 filed under Fanlisting, New While browsing through the extensive list of fanlisting subjects I have joined over the years, I took the opportunity to update several links to their most recent locations. Unfortunately, I also discovered that some subjects had disappeared entirely from the The Fanlistings Network (TFL) directory.
As these topics had not received new applications in years, I felt compelled to bring them back. I could not turn a blind eye to some of my longtime favorites that had once existed but were no longer represented. Thus began my personal project to revive several discontinued fanlistings.
At present, I have completed two fanlistings, with several more in development. If any of the subjects below capture your interest, I warmly invite you to join.
- History – History has always been one of my favorite subjects since my school days. I have long been fascinated by how the past continuously shapes the present. There is always something to uncover, question, or reinterpret, which fuels my enduring interest in this field.
- Powerpuff Girls – One of my favorite childhood television series, The Powerpuff Girls holds a special place in my heart. The reboot has also become a favorite of my daughter’s, retaining the charm of the original while offering refreshed visuals and modernized animation.
Posted on 24 Jun '24 filed under Miscellaneous For those who were fortunate enough to experience this feature many years ago as domain owners, Google once offered a free service known as G Suite (formerly Google Apps). One of its most notable advantages was the integration of Gmail, which remains my preferred email interface over my hosting provider’s built-in mail service. Cerine and I continue to use this feature to this day.
In earlier years, many domain owners extended the option of free Gmail accounts to interested users—whether or not they were hosted under their domain. Instead of using a standard address such as user@gmail.com, users could create addresses like user@domain.com while still retaining full access to Google’s suite of applications. Those under my management were granted access not only to Gmail but also to other Google services, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Owning a Gmail account has also proven beneficial for account management across various platforms, as many websites now allow users to register or sign in using their Google credentials. Fortunately, I still retain access to the Legacy G Suite Free Edition, which enables the creation of unlimited domain-based Gmail accounts without incurring subscription fees. This service remains free indefinitely, provided that active users continue to use their accounts.
Unfortunately, Google officially discontinued the free Legacy G Suite edition on June 27, 2022, transitioning new users to the paid Google Workspace service. While revisiting the system recently, I realized I had not considered adding our secondary domains to G Suite in quite some time. I have since implemented this, and Cerine will eventually transition to her own domain-based email, discontinuing the use of my domain extension.
Possible Future Updates
We may explore the option of offering free Gmail accounts through any of our available domains. Alternatively, we may extend this opportunity to current domain owners, allowing them to create Gmail accounts using their own domain extensions.
